8th International Congress of Dipterology, Potsdam, Germany 10-15 August 2014

Dear Fellow Dipterists and Entomologists,

On behalf of the Council for the International Congresses of Dipterology and the Senckenberg Nature Research Society, that adopted our Congress as the 25th International Senckenberg Conference, we cordially invite you to attend the 8th International Congress of Dipterology in Potsdam, Germany, on 10 - 15 August, 2014.

Located in the heart of Europe, Germany is easily and affordably accessible. Owing to its long history and scientific tradition, it is a popular destination not only for tourists but especially for scientists. Among the attractions for entomologists are several world ranking collections that hold many type specimens and other important historic material.

The chosen Congress Venue, Kongresshotel Potsdam, combines the comfort of a modern international congress center on a scenic lake-shore setting with the beauties of the historic and picturesque town of Potsdam. The bustling capital city of Berlin and two of the largest German Diptera collections (Museum für Naturkunde and Senckenberg Deutsches Entomologisches Institut) are within easy reach.

We will do our best to make this Congress a scientific highlight for colleagues from all over the world, as well as a venture of public outreach. We strive to cover all major aspects of Dipterology including systematics and taxonomy, morphology, physiology, evolution, biodiversity and conservation, ecology and behavior, agriculture and forensics.

The Congress will coincide with a prize-winning Diptera exhibition ("Die Fliegen") that was originally created in Neuchatel as well as by further activities such as the promotion of a dipteran as the insect of the year, a dipteran postal stamp, etc. The exhibition will be presented at the Museum of Natural History in Berlin during the Congress.

We invite you and your students to attend the ICD8 and contribute to the scientific program by presenting your research. Come and meet colleagues, get informed, exchange ideas, and have fun! Registration and abstract submission are now open. Take advantage of the early registration fee by registering before February 1, 2014.

We look forward to meeting you all in Potsdam.
